about

She stands worried, outside the convenience store by the cigarette disposal. Forced to internalize the things that had affected her the most - for reasons even she's wary of - she's managed to dull out the unpleasantries with each life-sucking puff. At least she won't have to live long with those elements of her experience seeping in - the fact that she's forever a decade lesser, both in appearance and action, along with the saddening notion that her father will no longer join her for the family dinner or her upcoming graduation from secondary school, if you could call it that. Maybe, she rationalizes, with the minty heat burning my lungs, she'll finally close her eyes and gaze upon her Gendo Ikari father.

lyrics

Wanna snuff out the bad in me
All those unwanted memories
Just a few moments of clarity
Give my mind transparency

B:
Off I run to the A&P
Get carded for my dose of greens
The flood of menthol rushes me
And I stumble to a hazy dream

R:
I dance the cigarette pirouette
Until my lungs run out of breath

With the lighter’s flick, I erase the sting
Of the past life I’m forced to see
Her hair shined, a spotlight pink
When they stole to kill her, I think

B:
Mother had it bad at times
But she was always proven right
She made a claim she’d be the first to go
But to where at, God only knows

[r]

Break:
Every wheeze kills the memory
But it still seeps inside of me
The more I puff, the harder to snuff
I’ve had enough of this carcinogen crutch

[v]
But there I stand outside to have a stick
I guess that’s their funny trick
This coping plant that I can’t kick
Or I might trip, man, I might trip

B:
My hair shines, a spotlight pink
Looks 18 but is actually 28
