Code: Lyoko came on as I arrived home. They were burning through season one in preparation for season two. I saw that episode about the giant teddy bear a million times. This was a shocker - the gang tries to form a band? Well, Odd, that is - the Pop Rock Progressives. Foxtrot Fanatics, whatever.
The song is meant to be a joke - had the band stayed around longer, they would've blown their cover (especially when a certain mystery girl came into the fold). The mix of hard rock guitars, gospel organ, prog-metal drumming, and an out-of-place trombone is meant to be comic. But I saw potential here. Well, rather in the snippet they wrote.
lyrics
Mystery girl, from another world
wanted happiness, but not a lot stress
strength that is true, a love affair for you
It all occurs to me, it's my belief
hand in hand, push her down all around
Mystery girl on the verge of being unfurled
in front of the world that had her curled
up on their finger and can't let her linger
Free her from those chains and let it be
what in the hell is her use to me
she sets her own path, truck-driver man
the last gasp for her morality
Hey you, mystery girl
what is your name besides the facade?
why do I see you in my dreams?
why do I see you beyond the mortal?
Mystery girl, some blur in a whirl
she escapes tonight, if she's still a light
I'm sure Madonna-whore is what she really needs
Hung up on an aspect of her life
trying to fit the complete piece
just one looks merits that of an attacker
one phrase sends chills up your spine
Hey you, mystery girl
what is your name besides the facade?
why do I see you in my dreams?
why do I see you beyond the mortal?
And it occurs to me
I'll be the lead role in the scene
of your life inside the movies
hotel rooms and glistening
lobbies on unsold product
inspire songs from other sources
Mystery girl, crying and furled
didn't get happiness, but instead the dread
Hey you, mystery girl
what is your name besides the facade?
why do I see you in my dreams?
why do I see you beyond the mortal?
Hey you, mystery girl
what is your name besides the facade?
why do I see you in my dreams?
why do I see you beyond the mortal?
And frankly, it seems to be
the girl's not up to speed
the world's gotten out of hand
the world's gotten out of hand.

Cardiacs has finally reached Bandcamp. This is genuinely one of my favorite albums, especially with the varied compositional styles, the mixture of psychedelia and prog rock, and Timmy's lyrics. Clicker Records
