Okay, what did Frank say about this song?

Well, if "He Hit Me (and It Felt Like a Kiss)" was seriously considered for release in 1962, then I guess this sarcastic ode to love songs is such that: purposefully radio-friendly. I guess Zappa wanted to throw Verve Records a surefire hit.

I don't think it worked, but he did state that Freak Out sold like a million copies by 1968.

I first heard this song in college. I was compiling the soundtrack for a movie I was writing about 9/11 truthers wanting to build a museum on the same block as a mosque. More than four years later and I think the song has depressing enough lyrics to turn into a pop punk, Tony Hawk soundtrack-core anthem.
